With February 9th marking the 51st anniversary of the 1971 Sylmar earthquake, it seems like a good time to take a quick moment to review what to do before and during an earthquake.  The Sylmar quake happened at 6:00 a.m. on February 9 in the San Gabriel Mountains. It was at the northern edge of the San Fernando Valley. The quake measured 6.6 on the Richter scale. The damage was severe near the San Fernando Valley and claimed sixty-four lives.

While the quake was felt strongly here in Rossmoor, there was no major damage reported. Just sloshing pools and cracks in sidewalks and patios. We were fortunate.

Take a quick look at this video (less than 4 minutes), just to make sure you and your family know what to do when the next quake hits the Southland.
