Back in 2014, long time Rossmoor resident Bernie Beskind started a program for people of all ages aptly named Rossmoor Walk & Talk. His idea was simple enough, whoever attends form groups of 2-4 people and walk in and around Rush Park and, wait for it – talk. How long they walk, how fast they walk, and what they talk about is up to them. If you needed a topic to talk about, Bernie was always there and happy to welcome new and returning walkers and to help out.
Bernie always said this simple plan creates an informal way to meet your neighbors and get some exercise at the same time. The best part? Walking can save or at least extend your life, plus you’ll get to meet some really great people. The Rossmoor Walk & Talk is open to all ages and walking speeds. Typically the groups walk around the park one, two, and sometimes three times. It’s all up to you.
After Bernie passed, the now late Herb Halling picked up the tradition and kept the Rossmoor Walk and Talk going. Since the tradition has passed along to a good number of residents who enjoy walking and talking (some of us use the “appointment” to force us to get out and walk 3-4 times a week) has become fun routine for a number of neighbors so the Walk & Talk events just happen. You are more than welcome to come join in the fun each week.
The more the merrier – Invite your friends and please spread the word. Rossmoor Walk & Talk events are:
- Monday mornings starting at 10:00 AM
- Tuesday mornings starting at 10:00 AM
- Wednesday mornings starting at 10:00 AM
- Thursday mornings starting at 10:00 AM
- Saturday mornings starting at 10:00 AM
PLEASE NOTE: ALL WALKS have been postponed due to COVID. Individuals are welcome and encouraged to walk at any time.
Meet at Rush Park near the children’s play area just before the start time, as long as it’s not raining.
