Our Rossmoor - A Great Place To Live Since 1957

Rossmoor – New Tree City USA Sign!

A HUGE thank you to CSD Director Jo Shade and Rossmoor’s CSD for the new TREE CITY USA signs.
The National Arbor Day Foundation honors communities who significantly demonstrate a commitment and understanding to the vital connection between trees and sustaining healthy living.
There are several requirements, including
  1. Having a board or dept. Overseeing the trees – that is the CSD for Rossmoor
  2. A professional on staff – that would be our very own Mary Kingman
  3. A commitment towards ongoing financial support – we definitely do that thru our tax money that funds Rossmoor’s CSD – managing, monitoring, and planting, pruning, and protecting our Urban Forest.

Uh-huh. That’s us. Thank you Rossmoor!

Rossmoor - Tree City Usa!

Ah, but why Tree City USA?

Imagine it as a superhero badge for cities and districts that go the extra mile to be green, leafy, and absolutely lush. This designation isn’t just a fancy title; it’s like a high-five to communities that commit to planting and nurturing their urban forests.

So, why is it so important? Well, first off, trees are like nature’s air purifiers, gobbling up pollution and giving us fresh, clean oxygen in return—pretty handy, right? Plus, they’re fantastic at cooling things down (natural air conditioning, anyone?), which means cities can save energy and keep things chill even when the thermometer climbs.

But wait, there’s more! Trees also dress up a city/district, making it more inviting and vibrant. This can lead to stronger communities because let’s face it, a park with beautiful trees is the perfect spot for everything from picnics to Pokémon Go marathons. Economically speaking, leafy streets can boost property values and attract businesses looking for a pleasant environment.

And here’s the kicker: cities and districts that earn the Tree City USA title are serious about their tree game. They have a whole management plan in place, and they celebrate and protect their trees, ensuring that these green giants are around to keep the city cool, clean, and beautiful for generations to come.

Getting the Tree City USA designation is like winning the eco-Olympics. It shows that a city or district isn’t just talking the talk; they’re walking the walk—or should we say, planting the plant?

It’s a leafy badge of honor that says,We care about our environment, and we’re committed to making our community a lush, thriving haven.” Who wouldn’t want to be part of that club?

Note: As of 2022, there were only 3,559 cities and districts in the country recognized as Tree City USA locations. And we are in our 14th year!

Cooler temperatures. Cleaner air. Higher property values. Healthier residents.

The benefits trees bring to urban environments are endless — and by earning Tree City USA recognition, Rossmoor gets to experience them firsthand.

Nice going Rossmoor!
