Orange County 2021-2029 Housing Element Update

Housingupdate | OurrossmoorThe Rossmoor Homeowners Association recently received the Orange County 2021-2029 Housing Element Update draft from the County Public Works Development Services group.

This draft plan takes into account the affordable housing requirements from the state along with other long-term planning policies. These plans include Rossmoor as we are an unincorporated area within the County.

The County invites you to participate in the process:

OC Public Works/OC Development Services invites the community to continue to participate in the planning process to update the County of Orange’s Housing Element for the 6th cycle (2021-2029), which serves as a policy guide to address the comprehensive housing needs of the unincorporated areas within Orange County.

The County of Orange’s first draft of the Housing Element is available here.

Public comments are requested between September 17, 2021 to October 15, 2021 via email to OChousing@ocpw.ocgov.com

The next County community workshop is scheduled for  Monday, September 27, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. and will be conducted via Zoom. If you are interested in attending, please send an RSVP to OChousing@ocpw.ocgov.com by Thursday, September 23, 2021, no later than 5:00 p.m.  A  Zoom link will be provided after the County receives your email to attend the meeting.

This is your chance to participate and better understand the potential changes for and impacts to Rossmoor and the rest of the county. Please take a few minutes (okay, more than a few minutes) to at least review the draft plan and then attend the Zoom meeting on 9/27. Thanks!

    1. It is possible Angie. The State is making it easier and easier to carve up single-family home lots, as per the bills signed into law last week. This is why it’s important to read and pay attention to these kinds of meetings and procedures.

    1. Thanks for your note.
I’d love to do that for you Laurelee. It’s a 248-page document that has a fair degree of complexity to it. To summarize it would take a considerable amount of time and still may be too technical in nature. This is why it’s important for residents to read the drafts and participate in the community meetings offered by the County so you can get your questions answered by the experts on zoning and land use.

  1. Looked at the document and got overwhelmed by it. 248 pages of technical terms are way too complicated for a person not trained in this field to understand. We know the Newsom passed SB 9 which allows another ADU to be built on a single-family lot. I hope current Rossmopor residents and future ones keep Rossmoor a singly family housing neighborhood.
