Do you have unused, old or expired prescription medication taking up space in your medicine cabinet?

The OC Sheriff’s Department and Seal Beach Police Department are hosting a recycling event Saturday, Oct. 28 in commemoration of the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, and residents are encouraged to stop by and dispose of their unused medication.

The event is designed to be a safe, convenient and responsible way to dispose of unused or expired prescription drugs. While unused or expired prescriptions will be accepted, the drop offs cannot take sharp objects, marijuana, liquids, or pressure canisters.

“Throughout Orange County we hear of tragic events in which people die from an overdose of prescription medication,” Seal Beach Police Chief Michael Henderson said. “By creating this opportunity for the community to safely dispose of unused and expired medication, our goal is to help prevent access to dangerous prescription medication.”

The Saturday 10/28 drug take back events take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with two local drop off locations:

  • Rush Park in Rossmoor (3021 Blume Drive)
  • Seal Beach Leisure World (13533 Seal Beach Blvd, main gate)
