March 2025 RWC Student of the Month – Mira Zacheis

Note: This is the thank you note to the RWC from Mira.

I am honored to have been chosen as Senior of the Month for March, and I am deeply grateful to have been recognized by the Rossmoor Woman’s Club.

I’d like to thank my parents for their constant support and my teachers for inspiring my love for learning. Throughout high school, I have worked diligently to balance schoolwork and extracurriculars, aiming to excel in both. I was recently selected as a National Merit Finalist in recognition of my PSAT scores, and I am proud of my academic achievement.

I am also proud to be the president of the Women’s Rights Club at LosAL. I founded this club to bring awareness to the issues that currently face women, and it has become a space of empowerment that I’m glad to be a part of. As a strong feminist, I intend to minor in Women’s and Gender Studies in college and hope to continue fighting for gender equality throughout my life.

I’ve also been involved in orchestra since sixth grade and have been playing violin for even longer. Music has always brought me joy, and I love being part of a group that values the importance of musical expression and the classical arts.

I’ve also found a community among my nerdy, science-loving teammates in Science Olympiad. Since sixth-grade, I have competed in a number of different events, like Astronomy, Ecology, etc., working hard to earn medals with my partners at several competitions. This year, I am president of the LosAl teams and have enjoyed working to prepare the team for competitions. Science Olympiad has developed my love for science and the natural world and has shown me the possibilities for science to change lives. As I’ve learned about molecular level processes and the possibility for them to be manipulated to design medicine, I have become inspired to pursue drug design.

As I look towards college, I intend to pursue a degree in biochemistry and a career in pharmacology in order to be a part of influential research that may hold the cure to diseases.
