Free Catalytic Converter Etching

Car Machanic | OurrossmoorIn support of SB 986 which tackles catalytic converter theft by requiring dealers to apply a vehicle identification number (VIN) to the catalytic converter of each vehicle listed for sale, and other catalytic converter theft prevention efforts, AAA SoCal is partnering with legislators and local law enforcement agencies to host free etching events to the public for the week of June 13th-June 18th.

Catalytic converter etching involves etching the vehicle’s license plate number onto the exposed converters located in the exhaust system under the vehicle.  The process takes about 15 minutes per vehicle, which is raised on a lift for safe and easy access for the etchers.

In our area, the free etching will be provided by Cypress Auto Repair & Smog in Cypress,  Buddy’s Auto Tires & More in Garden Grove along with other area shops.  To schedule an etching appointment at any participating shop in Southern California, drivers can visit  AAA.com/CarThefts.
