2023 Rossmoor Christmas Lights Celebration

Our 17th Year and Winter Storm Warning

You’ve probably already heard about the major Winter Vortex Storm descending upon Rossmoor by mid-December this year. If you haven’t yet, thank goodness you’re learning of it now. Time to prepare for a white winter wonderland in our neighborhood streets, parks and every front yard you pass this Christmas season.

2023 Christmas Lights Recognition In Rossmoor California

This is the perfect time to start preparing your house with ladders, hooks and nails, colored light strings, yard displays of Santa, snowmen, candy canes, reindeer, penguins, polar bears, elves, Christmas trees, trains, manger scenes, Snoopy, Woodstock, ornaments – whatever blows your hair back!  Anything that looks good in snow, all in the name of anticipating a White Christmas (weather it happens or not).

So with that in mind, now is also the time to enter your home (or neighbor’s home) in the 17th Annual Christmas Lights Celebration.  Looking for Griswolds, not Grinches.

And just like last year, the Rossmoor Homeowners Association will continue the “Family Judging Day

Here’s how to play:  In mid-December, we have a caravan of judges composed of kids and adult drivers venturing to every entered home on the preliminary map and have a hoot of a good time.

For a second year, all families are encouraged to hop in their cars, carts or bikes and hit the streets to determine their own favorite decorated Rossmoor homes and enter them for a Christmas Lights Recognition Award.

Families can create their own Award names for each house (e.g. Griswold Award, Winter Wonderland, Santa’s Workshop) whatever silly or fun mood you feel when gazing upon the house. Each family can submit up to three homes on Saturday the 16th on this entry form. Each entry should include a photo and write-up summary of the house, explaining why it should win the Award name you just created.

7th Annual Christmas Lights Bike Ride

And of course, BikeRossmoor.org will have the 7th Annual Christmas Lights Bike Ride! There will once again be two of these super family-fun, colorful bike rides: Friday, 12/22 and Saturday 12/23. Both rides will meet at Rush Park at 5:00 p.m. for decorating and a safety check, and then depart on the tour at about 6:00 p.m.

For all this to happen, we need Rossmoor homeowners (You) to decorate (Elaborately) and enter your (or your neighbor’s) dwelling in the Rossmoor Christmas Lights Celebration for all families traversing our streets to check out, soak in and enjoy the Christmas Lights Displays!

Celebration Awards & HotSpot Map

This year’s judging will take place, starting Saturday, December 16 (Key Date) to determine the homes that make the Rossmoor Christmas Lights HotSpot Map, and to designate the homes to receive the highly desired Recognition Awards. So there’s still plenty of time to decorate your home and enter the Celebration.

Chris Marshall and Kieran Nolan co-chair the event, and more details and access to the preliminary Christmas Lights map will follow in the RHA website and email newsletter as we get closer to “judgement day.”

To enter: Register your home (or neighbor’s home)Remember it’s free to enter. And the entry needs to be submitted before 10:00 PM on Friday, December 15, so it can be included on the preliminary judging map.  Hope that all makes sense.

All nominations need to be submitted before 10:00 PM on Friday, December 16, so they can be included on the judging map.

Let the Christmas Celebration fun begin!

Your mission, should you choose to accept…

Nominate your home (or a neighbor’s home) for the celebration (opens in new tab). We’ll need your name, email address, and phone number (in case we need to contact you) and the address of the house you are nominating along with a photo or two (or video) of the display. The photos/video should be taken at night or when the house looks its best.

Thanks to all the families who have decorated over the years! Keep it going – let’s make the 17th year something to remember!  We are looking forward to seeing all the new, creative, and colorful decorations throughout Rossmoor!

Hope that all makes sense. Any questions – just send them to RossmoorLights@gmail.com.
